Alan Acosta is a jazz saxophonist and woodwind doubler living in Tempe, Arizona where he is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Jazz Performance (Saxophone) at Arizona State University. Hailing from Tucson, AZ, Alan attended the Tucson Jazz Institute and was the lead alto saxophonist for the award-winning Tucson Jazz Institute Ellington Big Band. He has toured Europe playing in some of their largest jazz festivals including: Montreaux Jazz Festival, Jazzaldia, Umbria Jazz Festival, Paris Jazz Festival, Rome Jazz Festival, and many more. In 2013 and 2014 the Ellington Big Band was selected to participate in the Essentially Ellington competition (known as the Superbowl of jazz competitions for high school students) with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The ensemble took 1st place in the competition two years in a row with Alan as its lead alto saxophonist. He has played at the 2014 Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey, California with the Concord Combo as a guest artist after winning first place with the small group in the Next Generation jazz competition. Alan is now leading small groups all throughout the Phoenix and Tucson as well as being a member of a multitude of ensembles and shows such as Jerusafunk (The eccentric world music Klezmer funk band), Eye19 (indie alternative neo/soul jazz group), Geocentric (universe and outer space inspired jazz quartet), a member of "Those Guys Over There" (House Band) for Literally the Worst Show Ever (Comedy Show at Crescent Ballroom ) and frequently headlining at the Nash Jazz Club in downtown Phoenix.
